We will highlight the contributions and importance of African women in advancing social change. These contributions, in all areas of life, serve as encouragement and inspiration to the African women of the world, especially youth and students, to become active in the worldwide movement to achieve Pan-Africanism.
This year we will highlight African women who use the sciences to serve the community and world. We will honor Dr. Jifunza Wright-Carter, a physician, educator, health activist and pioneering African woman who has dedicated her life and work to improving the health of our people.
The program will provide an enjoyable mix of culture and education and will feature dynamic vocalist Maat Hanaa, South African Ambassador Mohau Pheko (live from Tokyo via skype) and a Sisters in Science Exhibit.
International observances of PAWD are taking place throughout the month of August in Africa, Europe and North America.
