Chicago Rembers the King of Blues!
B.B. King!
September 16, 1925 – May 14, 2015
The Thrill is gone!
The King of Blues has made his transition!
Almost 90 years young!
I remember hearing the music of B.B. King while growing up as a
child in the South. (Mississippi) Later in life I got a chance to visit
Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, home of the Blues, where there was a
Blues Bar on every corner. Blues, BarbeQue, and the Best of good
times.
As a child, I never really liked it because most of the songs were of not so good times. I often thought, "Why would anyone celebrate or even like that?" Well as time would have it, before I graduated from college, I had to write a paper on the Blues. Oh No!
How was I to write something about a subject I despised?
My instructor at the time suggested I go to the library and
read about it, as well as listen to some of the music. As destiny would
have it, I found a video and audio version of an asweome woman by the
name of Ma Rainey, (who didn't take no stuff from anyone, including the police in the segragated South in the 30's) who mentored Ms. Billie Holiday.
I loved the music of Billie Holiday, so I listened. Boy am I
glad I did. Because of the time I spent listening, learning and writing
my paper on the blues, I had finally learned to appreciate the blues.
I even went to see a play by August Williams, who wrote the play, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

Little did I know it would change my life.
Not only do I now appreciate the blues and the legacy, but B.B. King became my favorite male blues singer.
I often wondered how long he would continue to play as his
health continued to decline. He played right up until his last days.
Wouldn't it be great to do what you love to do, until you
couldn't do it anymore? B.B. King did. My wish is that you too get a
chance to live a full life.
The thrill may be gone from his guitar Lucille, but there's still a chance for all of us, in the words of B.B., "Never Make A Move Too Soon!"
Long live the memories of the King!
His body may be gone, but his spirit and music are always within earshot!
