Dear Otis Chandler,

Three years ago Lurie Children's hosted a series of listening sessions with violence prevention stakeholders that led to the creation of SCY. Participants, including many of you, discussed challenges such as the lack of proven programs that have been tested in Chicago, difficulty in scaling up proven programs, and mismatch between outcome measures and what matters in communities. We hope you can join us at our next SCY training on March 19 to discuss how Youth Guidance has tackled these challenges and how lessons learned from Becoming a Man (BAM) might apply in your organization.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Levin, MPH

Quick Response Network
Illinois Collaboration on Youth (ICOY)
The key to effective legislative advocacy is sending a clear, unified message to your legislators quickly, which can be nearly impossible in a busy work day. ICOY is here to help through their new initiative, the Quick Response Network.
ICOY monitors state and Federal policies, specifically regarding child welfare, juvenile justice, and youth services, to recommend and implement the most beneficial course of action for youth, their families, and communities.
ICOY will send you the latest legislative alerts, summaries, talking points, and related action steps in order for you to get messages out to your legislators.
Please designate one person on staff to receive these alerts and ACT! Fill out this survey to join.

Do You Understand Illinois' Concealed Carry Law?
Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence
The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV) has partnered with public officials, community leaders and business leaders to create a Concealed Carry Education Campaign that includes an Illinois Citizens Concealed Carry Handbook and a Gun Free Business Campaign.

The Illinois Citizens Concealed Carry Handbook is available online or in print at ICHV's office as well as the offices of partnering public officials.
Candace Moore will lead The Concealed Carry Education Campaign by educating business owners to make them aware of their rights to prohibit loaded, concealed handguns, and to promote individual policies restricting them. Reach out to her atcmoore@ichv.org with ideas and suggestions or to enlist your organization in the campaign.

 N'Spirartional Conversations

As we celebrate the women in our lives,
(March is women's history month)
let us be reminded
to speak kindly,
especially when we are challenged
to do otherwise.

Women quitely, (and sometimes not so quite)
run corporations as well as home.

Tell the women in your life just how much they mean to
you, before they leave the planet.

There's nothing worse than giving flowers
to a woman who can't smell them!

Until next time,
Stay on purpose, stay empowered,
stay tuned to higher learning

Lovingly,
Zelda Robinson-Hogues
