: NEXT WEEK!!! 2015 Restoring Justice Summit: 2nd Chance
CommUnity, YOUR Voices are Needed
Greetings:
It is our pleasure to partner with State Rep La Shawn K. Ford,
the IL House Restorative Justice Committee, The John Marshall Law School, a
host of awesome organizations and community to bring the Restoring Justice
Summit to residents in the Chicago area.
The
testimony that many of you provided at the Sealing Bill hearing before this
same IL House Committee in 2012 is a big part of the reason it became law in
2013 and took effect in 2014.
This
is how laws change and the system is reformed!! Officials
representing Your family at the State, County, City, and Federal levels
of government have been invited to the RJ Summit to hear your ideas and
recommendations for true systemic reform.
We
sincerely hope that YOU & Yours will come out for this FREE
Fair with Chicago area Legal Aid Resources, Know Your Rights Workshops with
attorneys, and Chicagoland/IL Speak Out to our elected officials about
JUSTICE Reform! After the RJ Summit, a report will be submitted to
officials about which pieces of legislation the community is
supporting/opposing for this current session, and which we propose from
this point forward. (One such proposal is attached: IL Sealing 10+)
CommUnity
has solutions and your recommendations have the power
to become law. This is your opportunity to tell Your story;
no voice is too small or insignificant.
YOUTH are welcome
to attend and participate, particularly those grades 7 and up.
Topics related to Criminal Justice include:

Successful Ex-offender Reentry &
Recidivism Reduction
·
Sentencing
·
Juvenile Justice
·
Community & Police Relations

Note that with the new changes in the law in 2014 and 2015, there are more opportunities for Sealing criminal records right now, so bring folks should bring rap sheets/arrest records to the RJ Summit for a new review with us (WRC), CGLA, and the IL Appellate Defender's Office.
