WOMEN'S History
Month!
As we continue
Women's History Month, let us be reminded of those who came before us to
make our way a little better. Early on in my radio career, (early
90's) I was asked to volunteer as a judge for the Operation Push Youth
Oratorical Society.
During that time I had the pleasure of meeting a young lady who was
passionate about these young people gaining the speaking skills necessary
to move forward in life. My career before radio was that of a
Trainer/Motivational Speaker, it was my mission to assist our youth in
the process.
Little did I know I would be so inspired by our children, and even more
inspired by a Mother of Operation Push. This Mother, was non
other than Rev. Willie
Barrow, also know as the Little Warrior!
With her feisty spirit, she showed us what it takes to connect with youth
in one afternoon, more than I've ever learned from any text book
in a full semester! A Mother of all Mothers! We miss you already!

Chicago's own Little Warrior has made
her transition. Gone physically, but her spirit lives on forever!
THE “LITTLE WARRIOR” HAS MADE HER TRANSITION
Statement By Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.
Rev. Willie Taplin Barrow, “The Little Warrior” from Burton, Texas, made
her transition last night. She is my sister beloved who was my
co-worker for more than 50 years. She was a woman of unusual
courage, character and ability. She was on Dr. King’s staff
during the days of Operation Breadbasket, continued on my staff at
Operation PUSH, was deeply involved in my two presidential campaigns as a
delegate and as part of the Electoral College vote from Illinois,
supported the National Rainbow Coalition, was active in the Rainbow PUSH
Coalition and attended every Saturday morning community meeting
that her health would permit. She was a great
motivational speaker with the unusual gift of being able to take a scared
group of people and inspire them to take militant non-violent action to
correct a wrong.
She was an authentic freedom fighter in the linage of Sojourner Truth,
Rosa Parks and Fannie Lou Hamer. In sickness and death her
body was frail, but her spirit and good works were never
feeble. Our memories of her will never die. Her
flame of hope, freedom and justice will forever burn.
Rev. Willie Barrow was a world citizen, traveling to North Vietnam,
Russia, Nicaragua, Cuba and South Africa. She was in South
Africa when Nelson Mandela was released from prison. She was a
short woman in stature and humble woman in spirit, but her life and
living made a global impact. Rev. Barrow, we will miss you, but God
has gained a strong spiritual little warrior.
