Diary of Mad Ex-Diabetic

Diary of Mad Ex-Diabetic
Forward by Chef Tony Hogues:
Coming from a family of diabetics, I wasn’t surprised to see how my wife became diabetic because she used to eat the same way my family members eat! Too much food on the plate, or too many sweets. (Cakes, pies, cookies, donuts, candy, almost anything with sugar.)
After her accident a few years ago, she was hospitalized and discovered what I feared the most. My wife was a full-fledged Type 2 Diabetic! I could no longer feed her all the good stuff she likes, no loves!  As much as she loved my cooking, she could no longer eat it.  So now that means I’ve got to cook the kind of cooking she likes, without the southern style fat!

Too much sugar/starch in blood = diabetes
Too much acid in blood = arthritis/gout
Too much of anything = cancer?

African American History Month

  February is
African American History Month

If you grew up not liking yourself,  you are not alone.

If you did not grow up with life giving you wanted  then you are not alone.

Most African Americans have had an extremely challenging life in the USA!
(Despite statistics stating otherwise!)

The fact that you've made it thus far, is a great sign that there is something else that the Universe has in store for you.

There is something else you were destined to do in this experience we call life!

You can smoke it away
you can drink it away
you can gamble it away
you can eat it away or
you can shop it away!

When the effects of all that you've done
to make it go away,
are still there,
you still have a chance.
So you may as well move on it!

No one knows what that thing is,
but you!
You can feel it in your bones!

You may not know exactly what it is that you were put here on this planet to do, but every single experience you've had is leading you in that direction, whether you believe it or not!

Do the thing that you are most afraid to do, and see where it leads you.

Who would have ever thought that a little country girl from Mississippi
(No, not Oprah, but Zelda!)
who once chopped cotton, planted seeds, worked on a farm for less than the price of a cup of coffee
(talking reg. coffee, not Starbucks) would get to live her dreams as a Radio/TV Personality/Producer

(
WNUA, WJPC. WEJM, WSSD, WCRX, WCPT, V013/WGCI/AM 1390, WGN/CLTV, BlogTalk Radio, Producer HLN-TV/Mohl TV, etc.)
and become a part of a Black Media Team
of another African American who would run for Mayor for the City of Chicago?

You see, you are making history all the time,
just by being alive!

So never take for granted that your life
means less than what others/media suggests!

You are far more important/relevant/needed
than you  will ever understand!

Let's continue tomake history together!
Let's do what we are all destined to do!
Be the very best we can,
on any given day,
starting today!

Make the decision!
It's all you have that really matters!
In the meantime, join me at the

P.S.
How is your street looking after the snow?
I bet it looks nothing like the streets DOWNTOWN or on the NORTH SIDE of the city!

Yes, it's an act of God, but it's also an act carried out by the Dept. of Streets and Sanitation (with directives from City Hall) as to what neighborhoods get snow removal first!

Remember that at the polls!

Why Is African American History Important?

It's important because you need to know the truth of the land in which you live.  Why? Because people will tell you anything other than the truth, and you won't know the difference!  Ignorance is never cute!

How would you like to have been removed, taken away from everything that you know?
Your land.  GONE!
Your family.  GONE!
Your identity. GONE!
Your  language.  GONE!

Now you have to adapt to a new language, which is foreign to you!

Just let that marinate for a moment or two.
Try to imagine what that feels like.

Speaking of language, most Americans speak broken English!
Many from the Southern region of the U.S. speak with a twang,
which is sometimes hard to understand.

I once spoke with a twang when I returned from the South. (Mississippi)
It wasn't until I took a speech class at Columbia College while studying Broadcasting, that I became ok with my dialect.

My Professor Dr. Mary Berger, The Speak Standard Too Institute
http://orchardbooksinc.com/staffdevelopment/workshoptestimonials.html

said something to me one day that I will always remember.  She said
"My southern accent didn't make me a bad person.  It only made me DIFFERENT, not DEFICIENT!"

Wow! How awesome is that? To realize that just because you don't fit the NORM, there's nothing wrong with you! It's just that you're different!

I can only imagine how Dr. Willie Wilson feels. He is also from the Southern region of America. (Louisiana)  A land that does not recognize the value of the African Americans who helped build this country we live in. People who worked from sun up to sun down for FREE! For hundreds of years!  Many still work for free, in minimum wage jobs, while corporations reap BILLIONS from the labor of man.

Mainstream Media and citizens alike attacked Dr. Wilson at the Mayoral Debate when he made the comment "Whitey".   Now I know this is going to upset a lot of people. GOOD. The truth usually does. Let the record show, that this commentary is solely that of my own, not that of the organization, HLN.

Why focus on a word that really meant no harm? It was a term used in the south, by both Blacks and Whites.  How do I know this? I lived there as a child.  It was all I heard all the time.  Just like people  use the word Black. It's a common word.  You had to grow up in the south to understand it. It's not a derogatory word, America. So don't try and make something out of nothing, in your efforts to dimenish a man's character who has nothing but love in his heart for ALL people.

How do I know this? I learned of this man back in the late 80's, early 90's when I began my career in Broadcast Radio.  As a faithful follower of the gospel, a church going sister who visited many churches, I discovered this humble man, Dr. Willie Wilson.

A man who gave much of his profits from his McDonald's ownership, to people in need.  A man who helped many a church in his day, and continues to do so without any media attention.  (Someone had the nerve to say he has no Black employees)  Do your homework, son.

How could someone who helps people of every nationality there is, including "Whitey" be a racist?  I think not.  I think his way of expressing himself was simply misunderstood, because he is DIFFERENT!
Not deficient!

Mainstream Media is quick to jump on the racial bandwagon.  It would serve us (humans) all better if they were to focus on the truth.  The truth of the matter is, the focus on our differences is what keeps us divided as a group of people.  There are no races, only ethnic differences.
There's only one race, that's the HUMAN race.   FOCUS.

Focus on the fact that America has NEVER apologized for its wrong in slavery in the first place, and probably never will. (in my lifetime anyway)
Putting Barack Obama in the Presidential office is not an apology.

Focus on what's important.
Allowing  EGO to get out of the way and begin the healing process by FORGIVENESS.

Forgiveness can heal a wound as well as a broken broken country!
Forgiveness begins within.
Where will you begin?

Let's put the nonsense aside that keeps us separate and focus on what's best for the city of Chicago.
A leader for ALL People.
A leader who has been an continues to be a man for people of all colors of the rainbow.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of our children being shuffled from school to mini prisons, crime, unemployment, the lack of city contracts for  minorities who make up a great portion of this city.  The list goes on.

If you saw the debate last night, you will notice that the POLITICIANS did everything they could to avoid answering the truth when asked questions.

Only one man, a man of God, closed with prayer. My prayer is that we can all agree that a MACHINE cannot continue to run a city.  A man of integrity has to step in an do what's right.  Surely if he owned nine (9) McDonald's successfully, surely he could steer the city of Chicago in the right diretion. After all, Dr. Wilson is a Businessman.
America is a corporation.
Don't believe me.  Do your homework.

P.S. This is not to offend our Caucasion friends/family/network.
It is only intended to show the ignorance of those who perpetuate the myth of Blacks vs. Whites. In God's eyes, we are one!

11-things-i-learned-from-being-cheated-on

You May Also Enjoy
"I feel like I'm always walking on eggshells with Rosalyn," my client Sean admitted during our recent Skype session. "I hate that we can't talk about problems in our relationship. As soon as  Read
Having been cheated on early in my life, I understandably internalized feelings of rejection. As a result, I closed myself off from my own faucet of truth, the one that told me that I was worthy, able and important.
Infidelity was like a trigger to a bottomless well of insecurity and feelings of inadequacy, which separated me from what I always felt was my true, carefree and joyful nature.
It is only now that I can look back and understand the lessons that I learned, and that we can all learn, in response to betrayal. Here are 11 kernels of wisdom that I hope you can take to heart, and realize that your well of truth is always yours, regardless of what anyone else says or does.
1. Nothing is ever personal (even when it is).
People cheat for a number of reasons, and it has nothing to do with you or the qualities you think you might be lacking. Cheaters, and liars in general, are often lost within their own kingdom of pain and we have to recognize that. It's not us. It's them.
2. Misery loves misery (and love loves love).
How can someone treat us with the respect and honesty we deserve when they can't take an honest look into the mirror? Infidelity can be a blessing, because it alerts us to the fact that we need to seek a relationship that we deserve, not one that reinforces our insecurities.
3. Self-worth can never be taken away.
One of the most important things we can have in this life is an understanding of our personal value. Individual worth is something that we will always be called to come back to in our times of struggle (and success!). Always respect yourself first and foremost. Self-respect is all you've got, but it's also a huge gift.
4. Honesty really is the best policy.
The cliché holds. The truth holds our power to access happiness and strength.

5. Prioritize protection.
My partner was having unprotected sex with other men, and while I am grateful to not have suffered any health repercussions, discovering this caused a deep enough trauma that caused me to run away from a number of topics within my personal life. I even avoided getting tested for a long time afterward, which was one of many reasons my issues with addiction started to spiral out of control. The message here is simple: know your status, get tested and let the importance of protection be an open topic between you and your partner.
6. Nothing is worth avoiding.
When something feels off, don't be shy to search for what is causing the discomfort. I let my emotions and feelings entangle me in a web of denial and delusion. When I look back, I see how I could've untangled myself if I had made space to ask myself questions about what I wanted and how I felt about what was going on at the time.
7. Forgive.
Even when you don't think someone who hurt you "deserves" it. Holding resentment only hurts us at the end of the day.
8. Always accept apologies.
For so long, I felt as if everything was my fault and failed to see why other people would apologize to me due to my own, sometimes subconscious, feelings of unworthiness. When I awoke to the reality that I was worthy of an apology, I allowed room for closure.
9. Things fall apart for other things to be created.
I wouldn't be here writing this article if it weren't for this experience in my life, so — one of many cases closed.
10. The most important relationship in your life isn't what you think.
No one will ever complete us. The only way you can feel complete is by honoring yourself. Of course, you can seek and find a meaningful romantic relationship. But that only happens when the two people getting together each already know, honor and love themselves; their union is built on a foundation of strength rather than codependency.
11. Pain can actually make us happier in the end.
Strength is a form of resilience, and is something we gain from undergoing pain. What if we allowed every wrong we've ever experienced to shine a light on all that is right in our lives? Instead of suffocating in the thralls of defeat, deceit and dread, we can appreciate our struggles for letting them guide us to greater discovery within.
When we approach our darkest moments, we allow ourselves to heal from what isn't meant for us. In relationships, we are often melting into one another and can find ourselves throwing away our personal identities as we become "one" with another. It's easy for us to get caught up in our need for validation from another person and forget that, at the end of the day, we are the one person who needs to meet our needs.
Many of us want to devote our entire existence to the one we love, but I've learned how that existence can come crashing down. As long as we have a solid foundation in who we are, we will always be able to weather any storm. Feeling safe doesn't necessarily come from a lover's embrace, but from standing on our own two feet.

Press Release...

FROM THE OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE
 LA SHAWN K. FORD
For Immediate Release: January 30, 2015

Ford Files Legislation for Moratorium on Red Light Cameras in Chicago

CHICAGO- State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, has introduced legislation which would place a moratorium on the use of red light cameras in Chicago until safeguards are in place to make their use fairer. An on-line petition started by Ford has 1,203 signatures of people calling for an end to the use of red light cameras in Chicago.

Ford's House Bill 487 (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocTypeID=HB&DocNum=487&GAID=13&SessionI D=88&LegID=84907) provides Chicago may not operate an automated traffic law enforcement system, but provides that the prohibition may be reconsidered through the introduction of appropriate legislation upon the submission of a report to the General Assembly detailing procedures that the municipality will implement to address specified issues in a satisfactory manner.
"It is only fair to people who drive the streets of Chicago that a moratorium be placed on the automated traffic violation system, or red light camera system, until it has been determined that the process is fair and just," said Ford. "Red light cameras are used all around the world, and I am not against red light cameras in general, because they may make some streets safer for drivers and pedestrians. However, with the recent investigations by the Chicago Tribune raising questions whether the red light cameras may actually increase dangers in our streets, we need to make the system fairer and safer for all. Though the legislation does not call for a specific process to generate the report to be made to the General Assembly, I might suggest the creation of a task force to study best practices throughout the world and produce the best safeguards needed in Chicago. Even though Mayor Emanuel inherited this problem, this is a chance to reset the procedures for this system.
For more information, contact one of Ford's constituent service offices: 816 S. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park at 708-445-3673, 4800 W. Chicago Avenue in Chicago at 773-378-5902 or in the Stratton Office Building in Springfield at 217-782-5962, or visit www.lashawnford.com.
