Why Is African American History Important?
It's
important because you need to know the truth of the land in which you
live. Why? Because people will tell you anything other than the truth,
and you won't know the difference! Ignorance is never cute!
How would you like to have been removed, taken away from everything that you know?
Your land. GONE!
Your family. GONE!
Your identity. GONE!
Your language. GONE!
Now you have to adapt to a new language, which is foreign to you!
Just let that marinate for a moment or two.
Try to imagine what that feels like.
Speaking of language, most Americans speak broken English!
Many from the Southern region of the U.S. speak with a twang,
which is sometimes hard to understand.
I once spoke with a twang when I returned from the South. (Mississippi)
It wasn't until I took a speech class at Columbia College while
studying Broadcasting, that I became ok with my dialect.
My Professor Dr. Mary Berger, The Speak Standard Too Institute
http://orchardbooksinc.com/staffdevelopment/workshoptestimonials.html
said something to me one day that I will always remember. She said
"My southern accent didn't make me a bad person. It only made me DIFFERENT, not DEFICIENT!"
Wow! How awesome is that? To realize that just because you don't fit the NORM, there's nothing wrong with you! It's just that you're different!
I can only imagine how Dr. Willie Wilson feels. He is also from
the Southern region of America. (Louisiana) A land that does not
recognize the value of the African Americans who helped build this
country we live in. People who worked from sun up to sun down for FREE!
For hundreds of years! Many still work for free, in minimum wage jobs,
while corporations reap BILLIONS from the labor of man.
Mainstream Media and citizens alike attacked Dr. Wilson at the Mayoral Debate when he made the comment "Whitey". Now I know this is going to upset a lot of people. GOOD. The truth usually does. Let the record show, that this commentary is solely that of my own, not that of the organization, HLN.
Why focus on a word that really meant no harm? It was a term
used in the south, by both Blacks and Whites. How do I know this? I
lived there as a child. It was all I heard all the time. Just like
people use the word Black. It's a common word. You had to grow up in
the south to understand it. It's not a derogatory word, America. So
don't try and make something out of nothing, in your efforts to dimenish
a man's character who has nothing but love in his heart for ALL
people.
How do I know this? I learned of this man back in the late
80's, early 90's when I began my career in Broadcast Radio. As a
faithful follower of the gospel, a church going sister who visited many
churches, I discovered this humble man, Dr. Willie Wilson.
A man who gave much of his profits from his McDonald's
ownership, to people in need. A man who helped many a church in his
day, and continues to do so without any media attention. (Someone had the nerve to say he has no Black employees) Do your homework, son.
How could someone who helps people of every nationality there
is, including "Whitey" be a racist? I think not. I think his way of
expressing himself was simply misunderstood, because he is DIFFERENT!
Not deficient!
Mainstream Media is quick to jump on the racial bandwagon.
It would serve us (humans) all better if they were to focus on the
truth. The truth of the matter is, the focus on our differences is what
keeps us divided as a group of people. There are no races, only ethnic differences.
There's only one race, that's the HUMAN race. FOCUS.
Focus on the fact that America has NEVER apologized for its
wrong in slavery in the first place, and probably never will. (in my lifetime anyway)
Putting Barack Obama in the Presidential office is not an apology.
Focus on what's important.
Allowing EGO to get out of the way and begin the healing process by FORGIVENESS.
Forgiveness can heal a wound as well as a broken broken country!
Forgiveness begins within.
Where will you begin?
Let's put the nonsense aside that keeps us separate and focus on what's best for the city of Chicago.
A leader for ALL People.
A leader who has been an continues to be a man for people of all colors of the rainbow.
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of our children being
shuffled from school to mini prisons, crime, unemployment, the lack of
city contracts for minorities who make up a great portion of this
city. The list goes on.
If you saw the debate last night, you will notice that the
POLITICIANS did everything they could to avoid answering the truth when
asked questions.
Only one man, a man of God, closed with prayer. My prayer is
that we can all agree that a MACHINE cannot continue to run a city. A
man of integrity has to step in an do what's right. Surely if he owned
nine (9) McDonald's successfully, surely he could steer the city of
Chicago in the right diretion. After all, Dr. Wilson is a Businessman.
America is a corporation.
Don't believe me. Do your homework.
P.S. This is not to offend our Caucasion friends/family/network.
It is only intended to show the ignorance of those who
perpetuate the myth of Blacks vs. Whites. In God's eyes, we are one!
